What is Basil Oil?

The botanical name for basil essential oil is Ocimum basilicum and it belongs to the Lamiaceae botanical family, which includes around 200 species of various botanical varieties of basil grown around the world. The plant used for essential oil is usually sourced from India, the United States and France. Basil essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves, stems and flowers.
