What is Nutritional Yeast
Nutritional yeast is an inactive form of yeast that is mainly used as a food fortifier. It is a perfect food supplement.
It is made from a mixture of sugar cane. As it is an inactive yeast, it does not cause yeast to develop in the intestinal tract. Its use is much healthier than synthetic yeasts, providing a large amount of proteins, vitamins, fibre and natural minerals, beneficial for our organism. They help to reduce stress, improve intestinal transit and boost the immune system.
Properties
It contains a large amount of B vitamins, with 34 times more vitamin B1 (thiamine) than oats and nuts.
A couple of grams of yeast provide the same amount of vitamin B1 as 100g of oats, 100g of lentils and 100g of walnuts combined.
Besides being very high in vitamin B1, it is also high in other vitamins, such as B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 (an essential vitamin for vegans), inositol, choline and folic acid.
In terms of minerals, yeast contains magnesium, iron, copper, chromium, selenium, potassium, calcium and is rich in zinc.
